IONS hopes listening method helps locally

The community chapter of the national Institute of Noetic Sciences is launching a program in step with a new nationwide emphasis.

Gold Country IONS will begin using the format of the “Discovery Cafe” to help members and visitors talk to each other at the deepest level and practice the discipline of listening.

The program will start Friday with the most basic of all questions: “What is most important to you?”

Gold Country IONS plans to use the “talking stick” discipline of encouraging true dialogue, where only the person who holds the stick will be the one to speak. It is then passed on to the next speaker.

The group expects to enlarge this method as a means of helping solve community problems.

The meeting will be at the office of Mary Tendall in Miners Village, Suite 102, in Nevada City. It will begin with a potluck at 6 p.m. The program will start at 6:45 p.m. and conclude at 8:30 p.m. The public is invited.
