Interim Grass Valley City Manager candidate discussed

Grass Valley's Mayor Howard Levine and Vice Mayor Lisa Swarthout will interview a candidate to fill an interim city manager position to replace current City Manager Robert Richardson.

The decision to meet with the candidate was made during a special city council closed session meeting held Thursday afternoon where all five council members, as well as Grass Valley legal counselors Michael Colantuono and David Ruderman, convened inside the mayor's conference room in City Hall for the discussion that lasted over an hour.

More information, including possibly the identity of the interim candidate, is expected at the next regularly scheduled council meeting Feb. 14.

Richardson announced late last month he will be taking on his old post as the city manager of Auburn. Richardson was not present at the meeting.

The announcement of Richardson's departure caught many off guard, including Levine. Richardson is expected to stay on until Feb. 23, according to Colantuono.

The City of Auburn announced that Richardson would be re-joining them as their city manager, a position he held there from 2003 to 2014, via a press release sent by Auburn Mayor Matt Spokely on Jan. 21. His selection was confirmed during a council meeting there the following Monday when it was announced that he will be receiving a $180,000 per year salary.
