Housing plan is OK’d in concept

In three weeks, approval of a 50-residence development of single family houses off Ridge Road should be a formality.

Grass Valley City Council members approved Ridge Meadows in concept on Tuesday while the project’s developer and the owner of a private road hammer out final details to make Upper Slate Creek Road the main entrance and exit for the tract.

Council members rejected the preferred option of road owner Robert Sauer, calling for the city to purchase an easement for the road. Instead, Sauer will abide by the city’s request to purchase the road, said Grass Valley lawyer Ray Shine, who represented Sauer Tuesday.

Sauer and the developer, Richard Kerr, need to reach a deal for Upper Slate Creek Road by 5 p.m., June 1, council members said. If a deal is reached, council members will consider formal project approval at their June 12 meeting.

The planned development would go in on the 9.2 acres south of Ridge Road at Upper Slate Creek Road, just west of Hughes Road.
