Home-invasion suspect slapped with $500K bail

Bail has been set for $500,750 for Jonathan Rodriguez, the man who was arrested on suspicion of home invasion and sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl Wednesday.

Rodriguez has been charged with kidnap to commit rape, forcible acts of sexual penetration, oral copulation with a person under 14, threat to commit crime that results in great bodily injury and burglary, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

Rodriguez was found hiding in a bathtub at a house on Cherry Lane near Memorial Park in Grass Valley after an hour-long manhunt using helicopters and canine units.

Rodriguez did not live or have access to the house on Cherry Lane as the Sheriff’s Office reported.

“Originally we were led to believe that he lived there. He had no business at the residence. We believe the suspect gained entry using an upstairs window,” said Sheriff Keith Royal.

All three dogs used in the search tracked Rodriquez to the house, Royal added.

Owner of the house Daniel Williams said he knew of the man but he was no friend and was a suspect in a burglary of his house 10 years ago.

“I was the one who got authorities to my house when I discovered it was ransacked. It was luck I was observant enough (to know) that someone was here,” Williams said.
