High Sierra blazes possible in coming days

A strong weather system could hit Thursday, bringing thunderstorms and lightning into the high Sierra.

If the system materializes, lightning strikes could cause forest fires Thursday and Friday that could be pushed by gusting winds, the National Weather Service said. The chance of fires are greatest at the higher elevations and on the eastern slope from Donner Pass to Reno.

The western Nevada County foothills, Grass Valley and Nevada City are not expected to see any precipitation, with clear skies and temperatures in the high 70s to mid-80s predicted through the weekend.
