High School bistrict braces for retirement of 30 teachers

A total of 30 teachers will retire from the local high school district by the end of the school year, Superintendent Maggie Deetz said Tuesday.

At a special meeting late Tuesday, board members of the Nevada Joint Union High School District accepted the retirements of 16 teachers.

The board members also decided to eliminate two positions – that of a full-time Spanish teacher and the vice-principal position at the Park Avenue Alternative Education Center – due to budget cuts caused by declining enrollment.

At the meeting, the board also revised the school calendar to change Monday, April 16, to a school day to make up for the snow day on Feb. 28.
