Help teens find

better choices for fun

My family moved to Grass Valley from Redwood City the summer after eighth grade. They thought that moving here would be a good way to give my brother and me a better education and keep us away from exposure to drugs and other things that could impact the way we live our lives. I disagree.

The first year I lived here, I noticed that many more people used drugs and got into trouble in Grass Valley than I had ever noticed in the Bay Area. From personal experience, I never got into any serious trouble when I lived in Redwood City, but I did in the first year I lived here.

I think the reason for this is the lack of alternative activities. If there were greater options for teenagers in terms of entertainment, maybe kids would choose a different kind of entertainment. If we had more choices, such as a roller rink, shopping mall, teen community center or anything like this closer to our town, then I think our teens would find better ways to use their time.
