Help sought in identifying body found in Rollins Lake

Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies are seeking the identity of a man found floating face down in Rollins Lake near the Orchard Springs Campground Friday.

“We have no idea where he’s from,” Cathy Valceschini, county chief deputy coroner, said Monday.

Foul play is not suspected, sheriff’s deputies said.

The man may have been in the water as long as a 11/2 weeks because the body was badly decomposed, Sgt. Ron Smith said Monday.

Valceschini said the man had no identification. He was described as being 5 feet11 inches tall; Asian, Hispanic or American Indian; and 25 to 50 years of age. He has a few gray hairs and well-kept teeth with three crowns, Smith said.

The man was carrying a key to a KIA automobile, Valceschini said. Three campgrounds near the lake have been searched, but no car has been found.

Attempts are being made to identify him via fingerprints, but identification will be difficult if he was never arrested, deputies said. Investigators are also checking dental records.

Anybody with information should contact the Sheriff’s Office at 265-1321.
