Help plan for Grass Valley’s future

Grass Valley residents who wish to be part of the city’s plans for future development and growth are encouraged to apply for one of the five vacant spots on the Planning Commission.

All five spots will be open by the end of the month as a result of a City Council decision to revamp the process for choosing representatives to the commission. Now, each council member will be nominating a resident for appointment, rather than a subcommittee making recommendations. Final approval still must come from the entire City Council, however.

So far, the city has received some applications from interested applicants, including some from current planning commission members.

Mayor Gerard Tassone said that each council member will most likely bring names of his or her first and second choice candidates, just in case a candidate is chosen by more than one member of the council. Nominations are expected to be considered by the City Council on Feb. 22.

Interested residents can send a letter of interest to City Clerk Bobby Poznik-Coover at City Hall, 125 E. Main St., Grass Valley. They can also contact City Council members via their City voice mail.

Mayor Gerard Tassone – 274-4318

Vice Mayor Mark Johnson – 274-4314

Councilwoman Patti Ingram – 274-4317

Councilwoman Lisa Swarthout – 274-4315

Councilwoman Dean Williams – 274-4316
