Hearing in Chicago Dave case postponed

A hearing in the death of “Chicago Dave” has been postponed to June 23 in Yuba County Superior Court in Marysville.

Amanda D. Driggers, of Yuba City, is accused of felony manslaughter in the death of David M. Beaver, of North San Juan. Driggers is charged with driving while intoxicated and driving negligently when she hit Beaver on a Yuba County highway last September.

The hearing scheduled for last Friday was continued, legal assistant Janet Frye of the Yuba County District Attorney’s office said today. The hearing was to have been a felony conference, a meeting in which lawyers from the two sides meet in the presence of a judge to discuss the progress of the case and any possible agreements.

Yuba County criminal cases often end in plea bargains. However, it is unclear whether Driggers has been offered an agreement or would accept one if offered, Frye said.

Driggers was 18 at the time of the wreck. She remains free on a $75,000 bond.
