Health-care book release event Oct. 25 in Grass Valley

A new book release event is set later this month for a healthcare book by a Nevada County physician.

The book, “Healing Healthcare: How Doctors and Patients Can Heal our Sick System,” was written by Jeff Kane, M.D.

The book release event will be 3 to 5 p.m. Oct. 25, at The Open Book (formerly Tomes), 671 Maltman Ave., Grass Valley.

Kane will read from the book; a discussion will follow.

According to Kane, who limited the last 35 years of his practice to facilitating cancer support groups, medical practice has decayed in the past 50 years from an intimate personal service into the “delivery of healthcare,” he said.

“Simply rearranging healthcare’s economics won’t significantly reform it,” he added. “Genuine reform will come only from reviving the venerable, therapeutic patient-doctor relationship. Healing Healthcare describes how to do it.”

Kane founded the support programs at Sutter Cancer Center in Sacramento and Sierra Nevada Cancer Center in Grass Valley. He has published four books and many articles on the patient-doctor relationship.
