Head-on crash in Penn Valley injures 3

A head-on collision Tuesday morning sent all three people involved to regional hospitals, with one of the drivers listed in serious condition.

Michael Robinson, 31, of Yuba City, was driving a Ford F150 eastbound on Highway 20 just west of Melody Lane when he drifted into the oncoming lane at about 50 to 55 mph, said California Highway Patrol Officer James Cornwall.

Robinson struck a Toyota Camry being driven at about the same speed by Dustin Brown, 31, of Penn Valley, Cornwall said.

“There was very little braking prior to impact,” Cornwall said. “The driver’s area of the Camry was the only part of the vehicle that was not destroyed. If there had been a passenger, they likely would not have survived.”

Robinson and his passenger. Katrina Swartz, 21, of Yuba City, complained of pain and were taken to Rideout Hospital in Marysville.

Brown was flown by helicopter to Sutter Roseville Medical Center; a spokeswoman said he remained in serious condition as of Tuesday afternoon.

All three were seatbelted, and drugs and alcohol were not believed to have caused the accident, Cornwall said.
