GV victim1s condition fair; others still critical

A Grass Valley man critically injured in a Harmony Ridge crash has been upgraded to fair condition, a Sutter Roseville Medical Center spokeswoman said Tuesday.

Aaron Ciaffoni, 21, and his 16-year-old male passenger were injured in a Jan. 6 crash on Highway 20 west of Willow Valley Road. The California Highway Patrol arrested Ciaffoni on suspicion of felony driving under the influence at Sutter Roseville and released him to the medical staff.

The teen was in good condition Tuesday at the University of California at Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

Two other people injured in recent incidents remained in critical condition:

— Karen Chapman, a south Nevada County woman injured falling from a horse near her Wiggens Way home, has been at Sutter Roseville since the Jan. 3 incident.

— Kyle Blanchard, 21, of Grass Valley has been at Sutter Roseville since being struck by a car Dec. 14 at a McCarter Way home off McCourtney Road.

Blanchard’s girlfriend is accused by the Sheriff’s Office of intentionally striking him after an argument. Brandi Manley, 29, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon. She later posted $25,000 bond at Wayne Brown Correctional Facility.

No charges have been filed, and the case remains under investigation, Assistant District Attorney Ron Wolfson said Tuesday.
