GV Male Voice Choir’s fall concert set

It’s time again for the Grass Valley Male Voice Choir’s annual fall concert. This group of 35 men will be providing a great mix of Americana and Cornish music that local western Nevada County people have come to enjoy.

This choir, patterned after the male voice choirs popular in England and especially in Cornwall, has been in existence in Grass Valley for 13 years and, aside from their four formal concerts each year, sing at many patriotic gatherings, meetings and conventions.

The income from their paid gigs is shared with local nonprofit organizations. A portion of the proceeds from this concert will go to Interfaith Food Ministry.

Songs will vary from the nostalgic, like “Down in the Valley,” to love songs such as “You Are So Beautiful” and “Think on Me,” to some fun songs like “Fergus an’ Molly” and “What Shall We Do with the Drunken Sailor?”

The group rehearses weekly at Eskaton Village, and it has become a tradition that they perform their dress rehearsal on the mezzanine for the dinner-time enjoyment of the residents and staff.

The director is long-time resident and active community leader, Eleanor Kenitzer. She is assisted by Darrell Crawford, also a Grass Valley resident. The choir will be accompanied by Karen Driscoll.
