Gunpoint hostage report unfounded

Grass Valley Police officers responded Tuesday morning to a report of a man holding another person hostage at gunpoint.

The report was unfounded — and the suspect was transported for a mental health evaluation, said Lt. Alex Gammelgard.

A little after 11 a.m., a third-party report came in that a man in a residence in the 100 block of Catalpa Lane was holding a hostage at gunpoint, Gammelgard said.

Officers responded and made contact with the suspect, who was convinced to come outside.

The residence was searched and no one else was inside, Gammelgard said.

The resident was transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.

Citrus Heights man arrested on drug sale charges

A man reportedly urinating in public ended up in jail after Nevada City Police officers found cocaine and a large amount of cash on him.

Officers responded to a complaint at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Commercial Street, said NCPD Lt. Paul Rohde.

The man, identified as Daniel Shane Venberg, 22, was on probation with search and seizure terms, Rohde said.

A search of Venberg reportedly uncovered suspected cocaine packaged in individual plastic bags, and nearly $900 in cash.

He was arrested on suspicion of possessing a controlled substance, possession for sale, and violating probation, booked and released on $35,750 bail.
