Gunfire leads to arrest

A report of a woman screaming and gunfire led to the arrest of two brothers from Yuba City.

Nevada County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a 911 call just after 10 p.m. Tuesday, from the 16000 block of Del Mar Way. The caller reported multiple gunshots and a woman screaming, according to dispatch reports.

As deputies arrived, a vehicle was observed leaving at a high rate of speed, said Lt. Stephen Tripp.

The residents were uncooperative, Tripp said. They said there had been a verbal dispute and shots had been fired into the air. There was a gunshot hole in a window, but the residents said that was not recent, Tripp added.

The vehicle eventually was spotted in Yuba County, Tripp said. Alfredo Melchor, 26, was arrested on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Cijifredo Melchor was arrested on a Yuba County Warrant.
