Grass Valley police: Man fled traffic stop, ran from officers

Jose Socorro Mendoza-Valencia

A Roseville man accused of fleeing a traffic stop and then running from officers remained Tuesday in the Nevada County Jail under $25,000 in bond, authorities said.

Jose Socorro Mendoza-Valencia, 44, is charged with evading police, driving under the influence of a drug and possession of paraphernalia, jail reports state.

Grass Valley officers arrested Mendoza-Valencia around 2:20 a.m. Tuesday after trying to stop his car on Bennett Street, near Ophir Street, Lt. Joe Matteoni said.

An officer saw that Mendoza-Valencia’s car had various vehicle code violations, leading to the attempted stop. Mendoza-Valencia then fled down Highway 174 and onto Happy Dale Road, where he ran from his car, the lieutenant said.

“He ran from the vehicle and was taken into custody a short time later,” Matteoni said.
