Grass Valley Planning Commission approves development code amendments

The Grass Valley Planning Commission unanimously approved an ordinance Tuesday night that would amend the city’s development code.

The ordinance will be brought to city council members on Sept. 8 for final review.

Tuesday’s approved amendments include correcting inconsistencies in the code, and adding transitional and supportive housing as a permitted use in general neighborhood zones.

Other amendments approved also include allowing antique and collectible stores in the city’s neighborhood center-flex zone, and permitting the sale of construction, farm and heavy equipment in heavy commercial, light industrial, and general industrial zones.

The ordinance also aims to reduce outdoor dining parking, and the setback for free-standing poles citywide.

In other business, the commission re-elected Daniel Swartzendruber as the commission’s chairman, and elected Don Coots as vice-chair. Both will serve their positions through the end of the calendar year.

Coots was also elected to serve as the commission’s primary representative to the city’s development review committee, while commissioner Yolanda Cookson will serve as an alternate.
