Grass Valley man killed in auto accident

A 36-year-old Grass Valley man was killed in an automobile accident Tuesday that occurred in the western county, according to the California Highway Patrol.

At around 1:50 p.m., Russell Ruth was driving a 1971 Toyota Landcruiser on Venus Court, east of Dog Bar Road, when “for unknown reason, (he) applied a steering wheel maneuver (right) and traveled off the roadway up a driveway,” according to the CHP report.

“The vehicle overturned and hit a pine tree. No one was wearing seatbelts and, as such, were ejected from the vehicle. (Russell Ruth) sustained fatal injuries.”

The two other passengers ” 73-year-old Tip Ruth and 42-year-old Christine Breese ” were taken by air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Memorial Hospital with “major, life-threatening injuries.”

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor, the CHP reported.
