Grass Valley burglary suspect nabbed

A man suspected of burglarizing a Grass Valley home didn’t make it far before being arrested Thursday afternoon.

Justin Alan, 27, was arrested at a residence in the 400 block of Mill Street about an hour after a woman allegedly caught him coming out of her home in the 300 block of Mill Street, stolen items in hand.

“The homeowner came home and saw that her door was open,” said Grass Valley Police Officer John Herrera. “She confronted the burglar inside the house. She told him to get out of the house and told him to empty his pockets.”

The man allegedly then fled on a bicycle, leaving behind a backpack.

“She watched him ride up the street and then lost sight of him” a few blocks away, Herrera said.

The bicycle was spotted by officers in the side yard of a house in the 400 block of Mill Street that “is known to harbor felons,” Herrera said.

Although Alan claimed to have been at the house all day, his statement was not corroborated by others in the house and he was identified as the suspected burglar, Herrera said.

Alan does not live at the house and is a Placer County resident, Herrera said. He was arrested on suspicion of burglary and outstanding out-of-county warrants.
