Gearing up for Grad Night

The Bear River High School Grad Night is from 11 tonight to 5 a.m. Friday The venue for the event, the Bear River multipurpose room, was open for a preview for the sponsors Thursday evening.

The main aim of Grad Night is to give graduating seniors a safe place to party all night long, said Joanne Remillard, co-chair of the Grad Night Committee.

About 250 graduating seniors are expected to attend the event, Remillard said.

A committee of 25 parent volunteers planned the food, decorations and entertainment for the event throughout the school year, Remillard said.

One hundred and fifty volunteers from the community have helped set up the jungle-themed party this year, and 140 volunteers will do two-hour shifts throughout the event, Remillard said.

The evening’s entertainment, according to Remillard, includes casino tables, tattoo and massage parlors, a live disc jockey, an obstacle course, a bungee run and a climbing wall.

“We’ve received $5,000 in cash and prizes from community members and businesses,” Remillard said. “Throughout the evening, we will raffle prizes for the attendees. We have a brand new laptop this year. We have three digital cameras, three to four iPods, two snowboards and three televisions (besides other prizes).”

The food at the party includes chicken skewers, soft pretzels, pizza, smoothies and cappuccino, Remillard said.

The California Highway Patrol has provided two officers for the entire night, while local fire and police officers will be at the event, as well, Remillard said.

Tickets for the event cost $30 in advance and $40 at the door.
