Gas prices steady

Gasoline prices have remained stable in Nevada County during the last four weeks, reflecting the statewide trend reported Tuesday by AAA of Northern California.

Seven western Nevada County gas stations surveyed Tuesday by The Union had an average price of $2.03 for a gallon of unleaded regular, a one-cent increase over the month prior.

Local prices reviewed by The Union Tuesday ranged from a low of $1.98 (Arco) to $2.10 (Shell on East Main Street).

AAA reported the statewide average was $2.09 a gallon, unchanged from the last survey taken Aug. 17.

“At least people who are on a tight budget have some idea how much of their checking account will be drained into their gas tanks,” said Sean Comey, spokesman for AAA. “From the consumer’s perspective, however, there’s still a lot of room left for improvement.”

At $1.98 a gallon, Marysville had the lowest average price among cities tracked by AAA. The highest average price was in Eureka, where unleaded regular costs $2.31 a gallon.

The national average was $1.84 a gallon.
