Gas prices drop 8 cents in month

Motorists in western Nevada County got some relief from high gas prices over the past month, reflecting a statewide trend reported Tuesday by AAA of Northern California.

The price of regular unleaded gas at seven stations tracked monthly by The Union fell an average of 8 cents a gallon since June 15, in line with an average statewide drop of 9 cents per gallon reported by AAA.

“It’s an encouraging trend, but we have a long way to go before most consumers would be able to cross high gas prices off their list of concerns,” said Sean Comey, spokesman for AAA.

AAA said the average price was $2.22 a gallon in Northern California, ranging from a low of $2.14 in Tracy to a high of $2.36 in Yreka. The national average was $1.90 a gallon.
