Fundraiser set for victim of assault

Friends and co-workers of assault victim Josh Harkins will hold a fundraiser next week at Citizens Restaurant in Nevada City, where Harkins worked.

Volunteers will serve a spaghetti dinner with garlic bread, salad and soda for $15 per person.

All proceeds go to Harkins’ family.

Harkins, 25, was assaulted Friday at Condon Park skate park in Grass Valley as he tried to stop a fight involving a group of young men.

Witnesses said Patrick Cronan, 20, attacked Harkins from behind and hit him in the side of the head with the trucks of his skateboard.

Cronan faces charges of assault with a deadly weapon and battery with serious bodily injury. He is scheduled to be arraigned today at 8:30 a.m. in Nevada County Superior Court.

Harkins lies in a medically induced coma with brain injuries at Sutter Roseville Medical Center.

A donation box will also be at the fundraiser. The event begins at 5 p.m., June 18, at Citizens Restaurant, 221 Broad Street, Nevada City.

Anyone wishing to help can call Citizens Restaurant at 265-5837.
