Fund to honor Somerville created

The Missouri School of Journalism has founded the Richard Somerville Memorial Scholarship Fund, along with relatives and friends, to honor the former editor of The Union.

Somerville was an instructor, researcher, graduate student and adviser to the student newspaper at MSJ, according to David Griner, who is helping to launch the fund.

Griner, also a former city editor at The Union, worked for Somerville as a research assistant and later at Somerville’s consulting firm, Media Foresight Associates.

“He was a tireless educator, futurist and wordsmith who touched many lives,” said the Web site for the fund, http://somervillefund.blogspot.com.

Donations can be made at the Web site or mailed to the University of Missouri, Office of Gift Planning and Endowments, 302 Reynolds Alumni Center, Columbia, MO 65211-2100.
