Full-time parks and rec manager sought

For the first time in four years Nevada City will add a full-time position to its payroll, with the creation of a new full-time park and recreation manager position.

The manager will oversee the operations at the Pioneer Pool, the Veteran’s Hall, supervise park and recreations programs and administer multi-purpose trails in the city. The full-time position evolved from a part-time, contracted pool manager position, according to City Manager Mark Miller.

“The youth in this county are underserved by programs and activities and it is perhaps our most at-risk group of people falling through the cracks – either getting into mischief, trouble or drugs,” said Miller. “I think it was very community-minded of the council to support a position that will provide for more of recreational activities. The contract position was instrumental in getting some of the programs under way. Now we need a full-time paying position to continue that momentum.”

Deadline to apply for the job, which was approved during Tuesday’s council meeting, is Feb. 28. The ideal applicant should have some California recreational experience, Miller said.

“We’re sending out 500 job announcements to park and recreation agencies in the area,” he added. “The salary range is $14 to $17.50 an hour.”
