Free help offered to homeowners, renters

HelpLine Information and Assistance is now taking appointments for free help with preparing and filing the State of California 2008 Homeowners and Renters Assistance claim forms.

A once-a-year payment is made to qualified individuals based on part of the property taxes assessed and paid on their homes or rent payments and their 2007 income.

To be eligible for this program you must be:



• 62 and older, blind or disabled;

• Have a total household income of $44,096 or less; and




• Be a United States citizen or designated alien.

Help in preparing the forms is provided by the local Homeowner and Renter Assistance Volunteer Program. The volunteers working in this program are trained by the State Franchise Tax Board.

Appointments will be available on Tuesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 8 through Aug. 19, 2008.
