Former teacher sentenced in molestation case

A former Silver Springs High School teacher from Truckee is serving 180 days in jail and five years of probation for molesting a girl under the age of 14.

Robert LuVisi, 51, was sentenced by Judge C. Anders Holmer in the Truckee division of Nevada County Superior Court on Dec. 16.

According to LuVisi’s sentence, he cannot consume Viagra without consent of a doctor, and he must register as a sex offender and pay $836 in fines to the court. He can’t have contact with a female minor without supervision of a responsible adult, and LuVisi is not allowed to possess pornography, according to the terms of his sentence.

LuVisi was arrested by Truckee police in March 2003 on suspicion of child endangerment and molesting two Truckee girls, one a teenager and the other 7 years old, between fall 2002 and January 2003, according to police reports. A misdemeanor charge of molesting a child under 18 was later dismissed by the court.

Prior to his arrest, LuVisi worked at Silver Springs High School, a continuation school with a teen parent program in Grass Valley. The school is now part of the Park Avenue Alternative Campus.

Hired by the school district in 1987, he also worked at Nevada Union High School at one time.
