Flurry of phone scams hitting Nevada County

Thousands of Nevada County residents have heard the recorded message: “This is the final call. Your vehicle warranty is about to expire.” If you have gotten telephone calls with a recorded message saying your car warranty has expired or someone needs to update your credit card information, hang up. The Federal Communi- cations Commission has a toll-free number where people can report unwanted telephone solicitations. Call 1-866-CALL-FCC, or 1-866-225-5322; at the menu, press 1 for English, then press 4 to report an unsolicited call. Scammers want your credit card and other personal information to make illegal purchases and other forms of theft, according to the FCC. Learn more online at http://www.fcc.gov/cgb.
