With most of the department heads and executive officers on retreat in Placer County, who was taking care of Nevada County business?

“I am technically in charge,” said Assessor Dale Flippin Friday from his office at Rood Administrative Center, the county’s headquarters in Nevada City.

Flippin said County Executive Officer Ted Gaebler asked him to sit in as acting CEO during the three-day retreat, which began Wednesday and ended Friday.

“We didn’t expect much to happen,” said Flippin, who added his stint as acting CEO hasn’t been much different than any regular day.

“All I’ve had to do is take a few phone calls from the press,” he said.

Flippin said not to worry, Nevada County government is in good hands, despite the absence of its CEO and department heads.

“The CEO’s staff is capable of handling the day-to-day operations,” he said. “I’m here in case of whatever – an earthquake or emergency.”
