Firewise celebration moved to new location

The greater Alta Sierra community has been recognized as a Firewise Communities/USA site by the National Fire Protect
ion Association for its efforts to reduce the vulnerability
of homes and landscape to wildfire.

The award will be presented at noon today at Nevada County Consolidated Fire Station 88, located at Highway 49 and LaBarr Meadows Road, not at the Alta Sierra Pizza & Grill, as previously planned, due to rain forecasted for Saturday’s event.

This free public event will be a festive occasion with the children’s education trailer, appearances by Smokey Bear, demonstrations on the proper use of a fire extinguisher and raffle drawings for haircuts from The Clip Shop, Bear River Pasta Company, Smokey Bear goodie bags and t-shirts.
