Firefighters investigate suspected vehicle arson at Alta Sierra Market

Fire officials are investigating an Alta Sierra vehicle fire that they say is arson.

The fire happened around 5 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Mike’s Alta Sierra Market, 10182 Alta Sierra Drive. The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District responded to an SUV on fire and extinguished it, Deputy Fire Marshal Terry McMahan said.

“Somebody set that vehicle on fire,” he added. “We know it was started in the passenger compartment. It did moderate to major damage.”

No one was injured and no other property damaged, McMahan said.

There have been no arrests.

“It’s still pretty preliminary right now,” McMahan said. “We’re still getting some information and evidence, still trying to track down some witnesses.”

Anyone with information should contact Consolidated Fire District at 530-273-3158.
