The 2015 Nevada County Destruction Derby extended a special salute to the men and women who put their lives on the line fighting fires to protect our community.

Jubilant fans in the stands waved 1,000 “THANK YOU!” cards. Grace Fae opened with our National Anthem, and then continued with a moving rendition of “You are the Wind Beneath my Wings” acknowledging the heroes our firefighters are.

Touchdown Productions recorded the opening so that Rotary and Nevada County can share our gratitude to all the firefighters who are fighting fires not only locally but throughout California, the greater US and Canada.

Produced by the five Rotary Clubs of Western Nevada County, this year’s Destruction Derby ignited a sold-out crowd with a rousing four heats of 18 cars and trucks jostling it out in the arena at the Nevada County Fair. Rotary’s proceeds from the event support Rotary’s local youth through service-oriented leadership development programs, a variety of vocational and academic scholarships, and numerous community service projects. Raffle receipts from the event go to Rotary International’s Polio Plus global campaign to end polio.
