Firefighters extricate person trapped in wreck

Firefighters from Grass Valley and Nevada City were dispatched to a vehicle accident on Loma Rica Road at Grass Valley Avenue Wednesday afternoon and ended up having to extricate a person who was trapped.

The firefighters arrived at the accident scene at about 4:30 p.m. to find two vehicles involved with one injury, said Grass Valley Fire Battalion Chief Mark Buttron.

The impact of the vehicles caused one vehicle’s occupant to become trapped, Buttron said. Firefighters used the HURST tool (aka jaws of life) to remove a door from the vehicle, allowing access to the patient. Firefighters removed the patient and, along with Sierra Nevada medics, provided care prior to transport.

The person, who was not identified, was transported to Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital.
