Fire sparked by mower?

A lawn mower reportedly caused a 10-acre vegetation fire off Highway 174 Sunday afternoon.

The blaze was reported at 1:56 p.m. near You Bet Road, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection. It was fully contained at 3:06 p.m. Several small spot fires were extinguished shortly afterward. Southbound traffic on the highway was backed up to Peardale Road.

Incident Commander Rob Paulus of CDF said 30 homes were threatened, but none were damaged. No one was injured, he said.

CDF, the U.S. Forest Service and Peardale-Chicago Park fire departments responded, as well as a Nevada County strike team.
