Fire Safe Council Spaghetti Feed to commemorate 49er Fire Sept. 11

The second annual Spaghetti Feed fundraiser for the Fire Safe Council of Nevada County will be held 4-7 p.m. Sept. 11 at Humpty Dumpty Kitchen in Grass Valley. The event will commemorate the 26th anniversary of the local catastrophic 49er Fire which destroyed 312 structures and scorched over 33,000 acres in western Nevada County.

The fundraiser provides undesignated funds to match grant dollars for the Fire Safe Council, a nonprofit, local volunteer organization dedicated to making our community safer from catastrophic wildfire through fire prevention education, fire break clearing projects and creating Firewise Communities.

A large aerial map depicting the 49er Fire boundaries will be on display along with handouts of personal accounts from those who fought the blaze or were affected.

Dinner will include spaghetti with meat or vegetarian sauce, salad, bread and drink for $10. Tickets are available online at the Fire Safe Council website at, by phoning 530-272-1122 or at the door the evening of the event at 1711 East Main St., Grass Valley.
