Fire district to say farewell to board members

The Nevada County Consolidated Fire District will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday night.

John Leonard and Ralph Hitchcock, both of whom will no longer serve on the board as of 2013, will be recognized during the proceedings.

The board will also discuss the hiring of an additional temporary firefighter and the promotion of three temporary firefighters to probationary firefighter status.

Originally, the fire district had an agenda item concerning the possibility of district employees as peace officers, but the item has been removed.

Linda Chaplin, who ran unsuccessfully for a seat on the board of directors, was sharply critical of the measure wondering if firefighters were going to start carrying weapons and behaving as law enforcement officers.
