Executive director plans to leave SYRCL

Janet Cohen, executive director of the South Yuba River Citizens League since 2001, will leave the position in February, SYRCL announced Tuesday.

Cohen, who was a SYRCL volunteer for almost 10 years before being named deputy director in 1998, “plans to work with her friends in the environmental community throughout the Sierra Nevada” and spend more time with her family in England, according to the announcement. She couldn’t be reached for comment.

“Janet brought financial and organizational stability to SYRCL, nurtured a creative and supportive organizational culture … and brought SYRCL to new heights of maturity and effectiveness,” Michael Funk, president of SYRCL’s board of directors, wrote in the statement.

SYRCL is already searching for her replacement. The job is posted on the organization’s Web site – http://www.syrcl.org – with applications due Oct. 30.
