Ertola appointed chief probation officer

Michael Ertola has been named chief probation officer for Nevada County, effective Sept. 17.

Ertola has brought a peaceful yet firm and direct style of leadership to the department over the last few months, said County Executive Officer Rick Haffey.

“He brings decades of experience to the position and is a most impressive communicator,” Haffey said in the county’s Friday Memo.

Ertola began working for Nevada County Probation in 2001 in both juvenile and adult services. He was promoted to program manager of Adult Services in 2006. He has been overseeing the implementation of AB 109 and the Day Reporting Center for Nevada County since its inception in 2011.

Ertola has been the Interim Chief Probation Officer since April 24, following the retirement of Doug Carver. His vision is to provide appropriate treatment services through evidence-based practices to change offender behavior.
