Emery statement doesn’t appear in voter pamphlet

Just exactly who Ben Emery is may be a mystery to some Nevada County voters.

The independent candidate for the U.S. 4th Congressional District didn’t submit a candidate statement outlining his background and platform to the Nevada County Elections Office by the Aug. 6 deadline, said Assistant County Clerk-Recorder Gail Smith.

Candidate statements appear in a voter information pamphlet mailed out by the office ahead of the Nov. 2 election, and there is no statement entry for Emery. Both of his opponents – incumbent Republican Tom McClintock and Democrat Clint Curtis – have statements in the pamphlet.

Messages left for the Emery campaign were not returned as of press time Thursday.
