Economic plans OK’d by the ERC

The Nevada County Economic Resource Council’s plans this year include more visits to area companies and more efforts to raise the area’s profile as a business location.

The ERC board approved plans for this year at Thursday’s meeting.

The economic development organization will continue its efforts to meet with area company executives to hear their concerns, with a goal of 16 visits per month.

Work will also continue with the rural e-commerce grant received by the ERC from the state Department of Technology, Trade and Commerce. As part of the program, the ERC will maintain and develop an inventory of buildings and land.

The ERC and the Sierra College Small Business Development Center are training companies on Web site development using state grants, and Larry Burkhardt, the ERC’s president and chief executive officer, was optimistic that more training could be offered.

“We should be able to offer repeats at a lower cost,” Burkhardt said.

To encourage business relocation to Nevada County, the ERC plans to take a number of steps.

The organization will make site visits to Nevada County by prospective firms a priority, with teams of community ambassadors to assist with the visits.

It also plans to travel to prospective businesses and talk to site selection consultants to better market Nevada County, and publish a flyer for distribution at area lodging and community events.
