Eat local challenge begins tomorrow

BriarPatch Co-op has joined with 70 other health food stores challenging the community to try consuming 80 percent of meals from food grown and produced locally.

The challenge runs Aug. 1 through Aug. 14. Already, more than 100 people have signed up and will monitor their progress on a chart posted in the store, said marketing manager Stephanie Mandel-Austin.

The 2008 Nevada County Farm Guide lists numerous local farms and BriarPatch and other natural food stores in the area offer locally grown produce, eggs, wines, baked goods and meats. A list of regionally produced dairy and grain products is also available in the store.
