Drowning victim identified

The young man who’s body was discovered Thursday from Englebright Lake was 28-year-old Jerimiah Randolph of Smartville, the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed.

An autopsy will be conducted Saturday to ascertain the exact cause of his death, Melanie Oakes, spokeswoman with the Yuba County Sheriff’s Office said.

Randolph’s body was located 90 feet below the water shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday, Oakes said. The Nevada County Sheriff’s search team used a remotely operated underwater vehicle to locate Randolph, Nevada County Sheriff Keith Royal said.

The Nevada County Sheriff’s Office was notified about a possible drowning at Englebright Lake at about 8 p.m. Wednesday, Royal said.

A male adult had jumped off the rocks at a place called Black Point on the western side of the lake and had not resurfaced, initial reports at the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office said.
