Driver suspect in fatal crash improves

A woman accused of causing a fatal crash in Penn Valley earlier this month has improved to fair condition, according to a Sutter Roseville Medical Center spokeswoman Wednesday.

Elizabeth Hughes, 38, of Nevada City had been in critical condition since a Feb. 2 crash at Highway 20 and Rough and Ready Highway that killed 65-year-old Ned Taylor of Penn Valley. Hughes allegedly fled from a traffic stop near Rough and Ready before crashing into Taylor’s pickup in the intersection.

Motorists critically injured in other area crashes have also improved at Sutter Roseville.

John Harrison, 31, of Nevada City is in fair condition. He was injured in a wreck Feb. 10 on Highway 49 near Crestview Drive, south of Grass Valley.

Also, Anthony Arellano, 64, of Auburn is in serious condition from his Feb. 3 two-vehicle accident on Highway 49 near Alta Sierra.
