Driver in fatal crash ID’d

A 30-year-old Southern California man was identified as the driver in a fatal Grass Valley-area crash.

Carl McCroskey of Lawndale was behind the wheel of his 1969 Datsun station wagon when it crashed Aug. 24 on Allison Ranch Road, according to the California Highway Patrol

McCroskey and his passenger, 28-year-old Erik Nelander of Grass Valley, were ejected. The CHP initially reported Nelander was the driver, but, according to CHP spokesman Troy Marks, further investigation of the crash scene pointed to McCroskey as the driver.

The CHP is still investigating the crash. Meanwhile, Nelander remains at Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he’s improved from critical to serious condition.
