Draft of river report available

Water agencies, environmental and fishery groups, Central Valley farmers and anyone else concerned about the Yuba River’s water can now review the draft version of a much-anticipated environmental report.

The proposed draft of the Lower Yuba River Accord is available for review during a 60-day public comment period ending Aug. 24.

The purpose of the document is to resolve instream flow issues associated with the Yuba River Development Project. It is supposed to protect and enhance lower Yuba fisheries and availability of local water supplies while providing funding for flood control and water supply projects including the Federal Central Valley Project.

After reviewing and addressing comments, the Bureau of Reclamation, a division of the U.S. Department of the Interior is expected to release a final report sometime this fall, said Tamara LaFramboise of the federal agency.

Two public hearings will be held from 2-3 p.m. and 6-7 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Yuba County Water Agency office at 1220 F St. in Marysville.

The draft report is available online at http://www.usbr.gov/mp/.
