Draft Horse Classic winners

The 21st annual Draft Horse Classic was held Sept. 20 through 23 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds in Grass Valley.

Draft horse exhibitors from California, Colorado, Idaho and Oregon competed for $37,000 in premium awards. The competitions were spread over six performances attended by approximately 20,000 draft horse fans.

The classic’s final performance ended with the awarding of the Ultimate Hitch to Simpson Percherons.

The award is given to the exhibitor who accumulates the most points in the following competitions: Pairs Ð Gentlemen, Pairs Ð Ladies, Tandem, Unicorn, Four-Up Rail, Four-Up Driving Competition, Six-Up Rail and the Six-Up Driving Competition. Dan Simpson and his family from Rio Vista took first place in the Ultimate Hitch competition with their Percheron hitch.
