The streets of downtown Grass Valley were lined with 200 flags in commemoration of Flag Day Friday as part of Flags Over the Foothills, a fundraiser to support Grass Valley Schools Foundation for Arts and Sciences.

Flags are flown on Memorial Day, Flag Day, the Fourth of July and Veterans Day and can be sponsored for $40 to $1,000.

The flags were not put up this Memorial Day because of rain.

“The fundraiser is for the Grass Valley Schools Foundation, which provides grants for Grass Valley School District, arts and sciences,” said foundation board president Nicole Schug.

“We’re grateful to have the foundation.”
