Donations sought for vets event

The fourth annual Veterans Stand Down is planned for Oct. 4-6 at the Nevada County Fairgrounds. The event offers disadvantaged veterans many free services at one central location.

The volunteer Stand Down task force is seeking donations of all kinds from individuals, families, organizations and businesses to assist disadvantaged veterans.

Donations sought include food, clothing, shelter, employment assistance, social services, haircuts, dental screening and eyeglasses for veterans living in Nevada, Sierra and Placer counties.

Last year, the Stand Down assisted about 220 veterans.

Interested veterans can preregister and get more information by calling the Nevada County Veterans Service Office at 273-3396.
