Disgusted with failure

I have been a professional writer/director/actor for 40 years. I am known nationally for my new successful play “The Treasure of the Sierra Madre.”

The problem the Foothill Theatre has is that the acting levels of its productions is amateurish at best. Our local audiences are sophisticated and have seen the best theatrical productions around the world.

When the administrative personnel consistently chooses their friends for productions, as opposed to some of the very talented actors in this community, it does not produce the enthusiastic response Foothill productions require with a $40 ticket price.

The choice of material today presented is a combination of inbred college-level taste. Foothill needs an artistic director who has experience, taste and knowledge to mount productions equal to the image that they have presented to the public in the past.

I am disgusted with this failure since the opportunity is there for Nevada County to have a nationally recognized regional theater that we can be proud of. The same situation exists at the Center for the Arts. I do hope that the future brings us artistic talent that can bring us $40 a ticket.
